There are several things that go through a parent's mind each morning before sending kids off to school. You make sure they have everything they need for school that day, but don't forget to slow down and take some time to pray with your kids before they leave each morning.

Climb in the car. Off to school.
Everyone in the car is thinking about the upcoming day. Some are excited because it is gym day- the best day of the week. Others are cramming the spelling words for a quiz. Still others are worried because things didn’t go so well with their friends yesterday. What will the day bring?
Every parent wants to send their kids off to school on the best foot. As parents, we want to be the steadying force to help our kids have the best day possible. So we say “I love you! Hope you have a good day!” and watch them walk into their school day alone. But they are not alone! God is with them.
And because of that, we can lean into the One who has already created the day and invite HIM into your child's day. We may not be able to go to school with our children, but God can. We may not be able to be the one to help our children navigate hard moments, but the Holy Spirit can. We may not be able to tell our kids all day that they are loved, but Jesus can.
As your children are about to leave the car or house for school, here are three prayers you can pray. Pick one and pray it out loud with your child and for your child.
Prayer #1 God’s Character (based on how God describes Himself in in Exodus 34:6-7)
Lord Jesus,
I pray today that we can be kind and gracious, slow to anger, compassionate to those hurting, and abounding in love just like You are to us.
Amen.
Prayer #2 Asking for God’s Blessing (based on the prayer God wanted prayed over the Israelites in Numbers 6:24-26)
Lord Jesus,
I pray today that you will bless us and keep us; that you will make Your face shine upon us; please be gracious with us; and please give us peace.
Amen
Prayer #3 Asking for God’s Guidance (based on a prayer God told the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 30:21)
Lord Jesus,
In whatever comes today, when we have the choice to walk one way or the other, may you, Lord Jesus, come and show the way to walk that will be pleasing to you. Give us wisdom to choose the right path. May we discern lies from truth. Lord, be near us today.
Amen.
We hope that your children take these words, prayed over them by you, and enter the world with their God with great peace, love, and purpose.
