Pillars of Your Week

January 22, 2026

Have you ever heard of the Sunday Scaries? Or maybe every day feels like you’re staring down at a long list of to-do’s and events and practices and appointments. Hopefully this gives you some inspiration on how to stay connected with your family throughout the week!

Show of hands…does anyone else currently struggle with the dreaded Sunday Scaries?!?! You know, when we look at the week ahead and we see school, work, groceries, cleaning, doctors appointments, forms to fill out, sports practice, etc.. And we get the dreaded Sunday Scaries. It can be so overwhelming that we don’t know where to start.

So…the question is, where do we start? Start with your pillars. Your pillars are the must-haves in your week that keep you and your family unit going strong. Here is an example of what that can look like:

Pillar #1: Spouse Time

Depending on your season of life, this can look totally different. Some seasons call for quick 6 a.m. coffee meetings, or a take-out meal after your kid’s bedtime. Some seasons call for learning and growing together by taking a Meck Institute class or reading a devotional together. Whatever your season, make spouse time a top pillar in your week!

(For you amazing single parents, change up this pillar with friend time!)

Pillar #2: Family Time

Family Fridays, Sunday Fundays, Movie Nights, catching a baseball game or visiting your favorite coffee shop, you get the point. As long as you’re doing it as a family, it counts. You can even check out what events and missions challenges are happening around MecKidz by following @meckidz on Instagram!

Pillar #3: 1:1 Time

Have you ever noticed your kids are truly themselves and an absolute delight when they are just one on one with you? Prioritize this 1:1 time! This doesn’t have to be an outing, it can be reading a book, putting a puzzle together, or even driving in the car alone.

Not sure how to keep the conversation going during your 1:1 time? Check out our parent resources on the Meck app!

Pillar #4: Self Time

The final pillar is usually the first pillar to go in our “busy parent era,” but it’s oh-so-crucial for our soul. Find time to treat yourself. A hot bath, listening to a podcast, lunch with a good friend, playing an instrument - whatever you enjoy that breathes life into your empty tank, do something weekly.

When you take care of the most important pillars of your life, other areas fall into place and are not so scary!
