10 Great Questions to Ask Your Kid in the New Year

Do you find it hard to ask your kids good questions that will get them talking? Try these out. It will be a great way to start a new year!

Many of us use the beginning of a new year to take stock of the previous year and make new goals for the year to come. This is a great practice and cultivates a spirit of reflection and personal awareness. Your kids can participate in this, too! Here are 10 great questions to ask your kid to help them reflect on the past year and set goals for the future.

1. God made an incredible world that is so fun to discover! What is something new you want to try this year?
2. God put us together in this family and loves it when we show each other love and have fun together.  What is something you would like us to do as a family this year?
3. Which “Fruit of the Spirit” did you have the hardest time with this year, and which one did you show well? (Read Galatians 5:22-23)
4. Spending time with God is important and helps us get to know Him better.  Do you enjoy your bible or devotional and do you have a time/space to read it?
5. The Bible tells us that good friendships are so important and help us make good decisions! What one friend would you like to spend more time with this year?
6. The Bible also warns us that spending time with people who are foolish tempts us to make foolish decisions, too.  Is there a friend who doesn’t always make good choices who you should maybe spend less time with?
7. God created laughter and fun.  What kinds of fun things did our family do last year?
8. Sometimes having too many activities can make us feel tired or distracted from things that matter most.  If you had to stop doing one activity, what would it be and why?
9. Let’s remember some of the things we prayed about last year and celebrate how God helped us through hard times.  What was something you prayed about last year and how did God help you?
10. God gave us a mission and it should always be on the top of our list of goals – it’s to tell others the good news about Jesus.  Who did we tell about Jesus last year and who can we tell this year?
