Why Easter Traditions Matter

April 2, 2026

Easter is a celebration of the most important moment in our faith: the resurrection of Jesus. In the middle of egg hunts, candy, and busy schedules, meaningful traditions can help bring our families back to what truly matters.

We know what you are thinking…”I can’t add one more thing to my to-do list.” But here’s the truth: creating Easter traditions isn’t about adding more to your to-do list but it is about being intentional with the moments you already have. Here are just some reasons why Easter traditions matter:

Children learn best through repetition.

When you repeat the same activities every year (e.g. baking Resurrection Rolls and talking about what Jesus did for us) they begin to take root. Over time, these traditions become familiar markers that point your children back to what Easter is all about: hope, sacrifice and new life.

Traditions can lead to deep conversations.

Some of the deepest conversations you will ever have with your kids happen around experiences and/or traditions. Easter can bring up big questions: “Why do they call it Good Friday if that’s when Jesus died?” “How did Jesus come back to life?” “Why do we say this prayer every Easter morning?” Traditions create natural opportunities for conversations to be woven into what you are doing, giving parents an opportunity to tell their own story about why this day is so meaningful to them. As your children ask these big questions, remember the Meck app has resources that can help you navigate these tough questions.

Traditions build a legacy of faith.

What you start now has the potential to carry on for generations. It also allows you to join the generations of Christians who have gathered together since the very morning the tomb was found empty. This is not a small thing to give a child. The intentional traditions you make today, reading Scripture, praying together, celebrating with purpose, can shape how your children one day lead their own families.

Easter traditions don’t have to be elaborate—they just need to be intentional. In the midst of the activities, simple traditions create memories tied to faith, not just fun keeping your family centered on the life-changing truth: Jesus is alive.
