Share Your Family History

September 28, 2025

In the Bible, God tells his people over and over again to “remember.” It’s how they reflect on their history with God. What about your family history? How will you help your family to “remember” all God has done? Check out this week’s blog post for some tips!

Do you share your family history with your children?

You should!

But not just any history. The history of what God has done for you.

A famous leader from the Bible, Moses, commanded his people:

“In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?’ tell him: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.’”  Deuteronomy 6:20-21 NIV

When Moses died, his successor, Joshua, established a habit of taking time to remember all the great things God had done for him and his people.

Watch this video with your kids.  It tells the story of how Joshua and The Israelites crossed the Jordan River and created a monument to remember the great things God had done.

After watching the video, spend time as a family talking about your own history with God.

What has God done in your life? How has God shown up for you?

Take time to remember and share stories about the amazing things that God has done for you and your family.

Then, pray and thank God for all he has done.

With life moving a hundred miles per hour, it can be hard to remember to look back from time to time and see how God has moved in our own lives.

We hope that today you take a moment to remember and thank God for all the ways that he has loved you and been there for you throughout your life.

Then, share that story with your kids so they know how faithful their God is.
