There are so many translations of the bible and so many different kinds. It is hard to know what is the best one to get for our child. Hopefully this helps you sift through to find the right one for the stage of life your kid is currently in.
As Christian parents, we want our kids to enjoy reading the Bible but sometimes it can seem so overwhelming and difficult to understand. We believe picking out the right Bible is a key component. In this blog post, we will help you pick out the right Bible for the age of your child. Here is a suggested guideline:
A board book designed for babies with good illustrations is the perfect way to begin the habit of snuggling up and talking about God’s word with your little one. A favorite that we give parents at our Baby Dedication services is the Baby's Hug-A-Bible. Another recommendation is The Tiny Truths Bible for Little Ones.
Storybook bibles are a great way to provide a foundation of faith in God as well as establishing and continuing a habit of reading God's word. While storybook bibles are not the actual Bible, they tell some of the important stories and truths from the Bible in an age-appropriate way.
There are many great storybook bibles that we recommend. Here are just a few:
One of the more popular and engaging bibles for kids in elementary school is The Action Bible. This vividly illustrated, fast-paced version of God’s redemptive story will captivate your kids and will make reading the bible exciting. Another Bible we recommend is the NIrV Adventure Bible for kids, which is a translation of the Bible that makes the content easier to comprehend.
As children get older, they may be ready for a study Bible. A good study Bible provides more in depth information like maps, timelines, dictionaries and other helpful tools that allow kids to go deeper with their Bible reading. A good translation when picking out a Bible is the New International Readers Version (NIrV). Here are some of the study Bibles we recommend.
Whatever your child’s age, It’s never too early or too late to begin reading the Bible together. The bonus? Not only will your child fall in love with God’s Word but you will too!
