MecKidz Baptism for Kids

At Meck, children in second through fifth grade may be baptized after completing the Baptism for Kids on-demand class. We believe baptism is a personal choice and a public declaration of a child’s decision to follow Jesus. While younger children can have a genuine faith, the meaning and symbolism of baptism are more abstract and are typically better understood at this age. Since baptism is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the class helps kids (and their parents) fully understand what baptism represents so they can confidently decide if they’re ready.

Baptism is a one-time declaration of a child’s personal faith and commitment to follow Jesus. Because of that, we view baptism as a meaningful, “one and done” step. That’s also why we do not baptize children before second grade. We want to be sure each child is able to understand what baptism represents and make this decision for themselves, rather than having it made for them.

Twice a year, Meck hosts Baptism Sunday, which is a church-wide celebration where children are baptized alongside others of all ages (second grade and older) who have chosen to follow Jesus. This shared experience highlights baptism as a meaningful step within the larger church community. In addition, we host a kids-only event the day before called the MecKidz Baptism Bash—a special celebration that honors the significance of baptism while adding our signature MecKidz flair. Together, these experiences make baptism meaningful, memorable, and joyful for both kids and parents.

No, this class is only offered on-demand. We have found that while parents are often a bit worried about the screen side of things, it's actually really good for kids to be able to take the class in the comfort of their own home, with their parents, and in a setting where they can ask any questions they may have without feeling awkward about people around them.

That being said, we also are very focused on partnering with you. If anything comes up throughout the class that you don’t feel equipped to answer, please don’t hesitate to reach out and we can schedule a meeting with a pastor! 

There are six total videos (two for parents to watch and four for kids/parents to watch together) that total up about an hour of time. There are workbook activities that accompany these, so a total of about 90 minutes should be enough time.

However, we strongly encourage you to space these videos out to allow your child time to process the information and ask questions… after all, it’s the BIGGEST decision they’ll ever make!

Once you register for the Baptism for Kids on-demand class, we will have your kit ready to be picked up in your child's MecKidz classroom on Sundays. If you'd like to pick your kit up earlier, just email us at meckidzelementary@mecklenburg.org to let us know and you can stop by our Church Office (Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.) to pick it up during the week.

Before you access the on-demand class, you'll need to either create or login to your Meck Dashboard account through the website. This will help keep track of your progress in the class!

Once you've picked up your Baptism for Kids Kit and logged into your Meck Dashboard account, you're ready to access the class content and begin.

Workbooks are due the Sunday BEFORE Baptism Sunday at Meck! 

It's not required, but why would you want to miss the most epic party celebrating one of the most meaningful decisions of your child’s life? ;) We hope to see your child and your whole family there as we celebrate together!

Once your child completes the Baptism for Kids on-demand class and turns in their workbook, MecKidz staff will review the content of their workbook and reach out with a “next steps” email. This email will include the link to register for Baptism Day at Meck AND the MecKidz Baptism Bash the day before!
